Gas in Flanders
Flanders has a single gas distribution grid operator, Fluvius, which serves the whole region. Distribution tariffs still vary between municipalities because they reflect the cost of each local network, but the operator you deal with is the same wherever you live in the region.

One operator, tariffs that still differ
Fluvius operates the gas distribution network across Flanders. Having a single operator simplifies the administration — one counterparty for meter readings, connections and faults — but it does not mean one tariff.
Distribution tariffs are calculated per network zone and approved by the VREG, the Flemish regulator. Two Flemish municipalities can therefore carry different distribution costs, even though Fluvius runs both networks.
None of this affects which supplier is cheapest for you. The distribution cost at your address is the same whichever contract you sign.
Why gas is the easier comparison
On electricity, Flanders applies a capacity tariff that depends on your monthly consumption peak, and households with solar panels have injection to account for. Neither exists on gas.
That leaves the gas comparison genuinely simple. Your annual consumption in kilowatt-hours, multiplied by the energy price, plus the annual standing charge. There is no fourth variable hiding in the bill.
Digital meters and gas
Flanders has rolled out digital meters widely, and they record gas consumption as well as electricity. For gas the practical benefit is modest: readings become automatic and estimated bills largely disappear, but there is no dynamic tariff worth exploiting as there is on electricity.
What the digital meter does give you is an accurate consumption history in kilowatt-hours, which is exactly the figure this comparison needs. It is available in your Fluvius account rather than on the meter itself.
Our verdict
Comparing gas in Flanders is simpler than comparing electricity: there is no capacity tariff based on your consumption peak, and no injection to account for if you have solar panels. Three figures settle it — your annual consumption in kilowatt-hours, the price per kilowatt-hour, and the annual standing charge.
Frequently asked questions
Which gas suppliers serve Flanders?
All the national suppliers listed above, along with several Flemish players including cooperatives that sell renewable electricity but not always gas. Fluvius distributes for all of them, so the choice of supplier does not change who maintains your connection.
Does the capacity tariff apply to gas?
No. The Flemish capacity tariff is an electricity measure, based on the monthly consumption peak recorded by a digital meter. Gas bills carry no equivalent, which is why comparing gas contracts is a genuinely simpler exercise.
Is the distribution tariff the same everywhere in Flanders?
No, although the operator is. Fluvius runs the whole regional network but tariffs are set per zone and approved by the VREG, so two Flemish municipalities can carry different distribution costs for the same consumption.
Where do I find my gas consumption in Flanders?
On your annual settlement invoice, or in your Fluvius account if you have a digital meter. The Fluvius figure is the more reliable of the two because it is a real reading rather than an estimate corrected at settlement.
