Mobile Vikings or BASE: which to choose?
Mobile Vikings and BASE are two Belgian mobile brands that do not own a network: each runs on the infrastructure of the telecom group it belongs to. The coverage you get therefore depends on the host network, not on the brand.

Two secondary brands, two positions
Neither operates its own mobile network. In Belgium only three operators own infrastructure: Proximus, Orange and Telenet. Every other brand rents capacity on one of the three.
The practical consequence is that the coverage and speed you get are those of the host network, not of the brand. That is the first thing to verify, all the more since the ownership of secondary brands has shifted.
On positioning, Mobile Vikings has historically addressed a technically minded customer, with communication centred on data allowances and entirely online management. BASE has a physical retail presence, which matters if you want to walk into a shop.
How to separate them objectively
Establish your monthly data consumption over three months. Then identify, at each brand, the cheapest plan covering that volume with roughly thirty percent of headroom. Compare those two plans and nothing else.
Check the behaviour on exceeding the allowance: throttling, or billing outside the bundle. This is where terms most often differ and where a bill can run away.
Finally check the commitment. A difference of two euros a month evaporates against a twenty-four-month commitment if you intend to stay free to move.
Our verdict
The first question is not price but which physical network each brand uses at your address — ownership of Belgian secondary brands has moved in recent years and an answer from three years ago may be stale. Verify the host network at the moment you subscribe, then separate them on data allowance against price at your own level of consumption.
Frequently asked questions
Do Mobile Vikings and BASE have the same coverage?
Not necessarily: each rides on the network of the group it belongs to, and coverage is that of the host network rather than the brand. Verify which network each uses at the moment you subscribe, since ownership of Belgian secondary brands has shifted.
Which one is cheaper?
It depends entirely on your data consumption. Establish your monthly usage over three months, then take the cheapest plan at each brand covering that volume with about thirty percent of headroom, and compare only those two.
Can I move between them and keep my number?
Yes. Number portability is a right in Belgium and free of charge; you request it from the operator you are joining. Never cancel the old contract yourself first, or the number is released and lost.
Is there a difference in customer service?
The models differ more than the quality: Mobile Vikings manages everything online, BASE has a physical retail network. If you want to be able to walk into a shop, that is a real distinction rather than a marketing one.
