Belgian cable was built region by region
The Belgian cable networks grew out of local television distribution, deployed commune by commune. Their progressive consolidation produced two geographically separate groups: one covering Wallonia and part of Brussels, the other Flanders and another part.
There is therefore almost no Belgian street where the two cables compete. That is not a commercial choice but an infrastructure legacy, and it explains why a recommendation read on a forum may be irrelevant to your address.
If you move from one region to the other you do not transfer your subscription: you take out a different one. Anticipate what happens to your fixed telephone number, which is tied to a geographic zone in Belgium.
One cable does not mean one supplier
Wholesale access to the cable networks is regulated by the Belgian telecoms regulator. Other operators can therefore sell offers that travel over the cable in your street, under their own brand and their own terms.
The useful consequence: even where a single infrastructure reaches you, you retain a choice of suppliers. The right question is not which network is best but which brands can sell over the one you have.
