The two components are bundled, not chosen

Operators build packs by tying a channel line-up to a speed tier. A larger line-up generally comes with a faster connection, not because the two are technically linked, but because both belong to the same commercial tier.

That is why a pack comparison ranks badly on a single axis. Sorting by price mixes households that need 1 Gbit/s with households that want eighty channels, and the winner of one sort is rarely the winner of the other.

Work out which half you are buying

Start with the component that has a hard requirement. If four people stream simultaneously, the speed is not negotiable and the channel count is whatever comes with it. If the television is on all evening and the internet serves two phones, it is the reverse.

Then check the other component against the market. A pack that gives you the speed you need but a line-up you will not watch is still worth taking if it beats the alternatives on speed — you are simply not paying for the television part, whatever the marketing says.

Fixed telephony, the third wheel

Many Belgian packs still include a landline. It costs the operator almost nothing and it pads the feature list, which is precisely why it is there.

Treat it as worthless unless you actually use it. A pack that beats another only because it adds fixed telephony is not, in reality, ahead.

Our verdict

The cheapest pack is not the slowest one. In our survey a pack at 40,99 € carries 100 Mbit/s with eighty channels, while a pack at 52 € carries 300 Mbit/s with thirty-three. Decide first which of the two components drives your choice — the other follows, and rarely in the direction the price suggests.

Why can I not choose speed and channels separately?

Because operators sell tiers, not components. A channel line-up is attached to a speed level for commercial reasons rather than technical ones, so moving up to get more channels also buys speed you may not need, and vice versa.

Is the most expensive pack the fastest?

Does a pack include a landline?

Often yes, and it is worth almost nothing to most households. It costs the operator very little to include and it lengthens the feature list. Ignore it in a comparison unless you genuinely use a fixed line.

How much does installation cost?

Self-installation is normally free. A technician visit is charged up to 79 € at most operators, though recruitment campaigns frequently waive it. Spread over a typical two-year commitment it is worth roughly 3 € a month, which is enough to change the ranking of two close packs.
